Some of the boys in Mrs. Magnuson's preschool class roared with excitement today as they showed off the dinosaur headbands they made on Special Interest Day!

On Friday, May 6th, Ms. Andrea's 3rd grade class took a field trip to Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo to learn tons about nature and the outdoors!

Local first responders from the Police and Fire Departments, and EMTs visited St. Aloysisus School on Tuesday morning, May 10th to talk about safety and allow students to explore the equipment they use to protect us. Special thanks to parent Nicole Muller for coordinating this very special visit!

Mr. Gre's 4th grade class visited the United Dreams Dairy Farm on Friday, May 6th and learned about safety on the farm.

St. Aloysius held its annual Science Fair on Mary 4th. This was an opportunity for all 4th & 5th graders (and enthusiastic volunteers from 2nd & 3rd grades) to apply and share the lessons they learned in Science this year.

St. Al's Spring Concert was Thursday night, April 28th at 6:30 p.m. What an amazing performance! If you weren't able to make it, here's a sample of what you missed!

The Knights of Columbus held their annual Diocesan Knowledge & Free Throw Competition for grades 5 - 8 on Saturday, April 9th at the Sauk Prairie Middle School. St. Aloysius 5th grade students Vos Betley (Math), Clara Galvez (Spelling) and Calvin Breunig (Free Throw) earned first place in each of their respective competitions! All three students will now advance to the State Competition in Wisconsin Rapids (not Green Bay as initially reported) on April 30th. We are so very proud of our students and wish them great success as they advance to the State Competition! On April 4th, Mrs. Hruby's 5th grade students felt like their heads were in the clouds when they visited Truax Field Air Force Base! Escorted by Lieutenant Colonel Keith Krejchik, students experienced the gear pilots wear (each trying on a helmet), explored the cockpit of a jet, and learned about jet mechanics (how a jet flies, slows, and shoots). Students also learned about some of Wisconsin's most important pilots and got to see the newest Air Force Firetruck! What an experience!

As part of their Lenten preparation, students at St. Aloysius School are making note of their sins and "transforming" them into good deeds! Their loving actions are noted on flowers attached to a large cross in the school lobby for other students and visitors to see. The cross becomes more beautiful each day as new flowers are added!

Students in Mrs. Breunig's class recently learned how to be paleontologists by making trace fossils and digging for fossil remains! Elementary school science has never been so cool.

Our local Knights of Columbus council #3099 holds an annual district-wide Spelling and Math Competition for students in 5th thru 8th grades. For the 5th grade competition this year, students from Tower Rock, Merrimac, Grand Avenue and St. Aloysius elementary schools competed. We are proud to report that St. Aloysius students took 1st and 2nd place in both the Spelling and Math competitions! Out of 81 students, Clara Galvez took 1st place and Laura Kruchten took 2nd place in Spelling, while Vos Betley and Connor Kendall took 1st and 2nd place respectively in Math beating out 77 other students! 1st place winners will move on to compete in the Diocesan Competition in April and winners in the Diocese will then move on to compete in a State Competion in Green Bay. Great job, students! Let's all cheer for Clara and Vos!

Last Friday, our 5th graders turned the school lobby into "St. Aloysius Super Speedway" by racing their balloon-powered racers to see which car could go the farthest and fastest. For an assignment in Mrs. Hruby's science class, students designed their own cars using common objects. The purpose of the assingment was to show the force generated from air escaping in an opposite direction. Gabe Krejchiks vehicle (with the balloon unattached) proved to be the clear winner! Good job, Gabe! Cousins Vincent Krejchik (L) and Gabe Krejchik (R) fill their "gas tanks" in preparation for the race while Calvin Breunig and Fatima Gonzales look on.
