Questions and Answers
Answers to the questions families ask us most. If yours is not here, we would be glad to hear from you.
Admissions and Enrollment
Who can attend St. Aloysius School?
St. Aloysius School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and financial aid programs, and athletic or school-administered programs.
Tuition and Financial Aid
How much is tuition, and is financial aid available?
The value of a quality Catholic education is invaluable. We do our best to keep tuition rates affordable to most families while ensuring quality results for your investment. See the 2026–2027 tuition rates and financial policies.
It is important for us to support families who desire to provide a quality Catholic education, regardless of their ability to pay. For this reason, we provide tuition and lunch assistance to those who qualify. Apply for tuition assistance through FACTS.
The School Day
How large are classes?
We typically limit the size of our classrooms to 14 students. If we encounter excessive need where class sizes must increase slightly beyond this limit, we supply a teacher aide in the classroom to provide additional support.
Is there a hot lunch program?
St. Aloysius School has a nutritious, on-site hot lunch program available for students in grades K–5. We also offer a mid-morning milk and snack break. Students may bring nutritious snacks from home, or choose a piece of fresh fruit provided by the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry. See the lunch menu page for prices.
Is bus service available?
The Sauk Prairie School District provides bus service for our students in preschool through 8th grade. Limited bus service is available for mid-day preschool departures. Contact us to find out if bus service is available for your preschool student.
Is there a dress code?
Our goal is to provide a learning environment where students can successfully focus on academics and achieve their full potential. A student's personal appearance plays an important role in this, which is why St. Aloysius School has a defined dress code policy for students.
Can my child learn Spanish?
We offer students the opportunity to begin learning Spanish as early as kindergarten from many teachers who learned Spanish as their primary language. For students whose families primarily speak Spanish, we have both on-site tutors and dual-speaking staff to help them assimilate to English.
Faith Life
Does my child need to be Catholic?
It is not a requirement for a student to be Catholic, but students attending our school must participate in Mass and other faith-based activities. Participating families enrolled in St. Aloysius Church (Sauk City), St. Norbert Church (Roxbury) and St. Mary Health of the Sick (Merrimac) pay lower tuition rates and receive priority consideration for enrollment.
Getting Involved
How can I volunteer?
We welcome parents and members of our community to volunteer at St. Aloysius School. This is an excellent way for students to develop social skills and learn new skills from people with varied backgrounds and talents. As a protection to our students, all volunteers are pre-screened. All volunteers who want to work with children in the Diocese of Madison are required to complete safe environment training, also known as Virtus. It is an online course which includes the submission of information required for a background check. Learn more and complete the training.
What is the Home & School Association?
The St. Aloysius Home & School Association is an active, non-profit group of parents dedicated to hosting activities and events to raise funds to support our school. There are many ways to participate and get to know other school families. Learn how to get involved.
